Receiver of the 2024 Golden Funnel Award: Our very own Jenna Senecal

If you’re into nutrient recycling, you’ll definitely have heard of the Rich Earth Institute (REI), the world’s biggest urine recycling hub! Located in Vermont, USA, The REI have been collecting and recycling human urine into a fertilizer since 2011. Today, they have managed to build an incredible community of environmental enthusiasts, farmers and households who together ensure that going to the bathroom is made more sustainable by bringing the nutrients back to Vermont fields.

Every year, they host the Rich Earth Summit where urine recyclers from all over the world get together in a 3-day hybrid event, to share projects, learnings and new knowledge. Sanitation360 is a massive fan of this summit and attend every year possible. This year it took place during Nov 12-14 and we attended online, but hope to intend in person one day!

A tradition at the summit is handing out the Golden Funnel Award to someone within the field “who is making waves in the field of urine reclamation.” And this year, we are so proud to announce that it was our very own CEO and co-founder, Jenna Senecal, for her dedication on championing urine recycling in Sweden for over a decade now.
