Urinals amongst flower beds — Malmö Garden Show 2026
During the last weekend of May (29–31st), Sanitation360 had the pleasure of participating in Malmö Garden Show 2026 with the exhibition and panel discussion “Guldvatten till nästa nivå” (“Taking Golden Water to the Next Level”) — highlighting circular, climate-smart and inclusive sanitation solutions for a more sustainable future.
Supported by the EU and Interreg South Baltic project STRIVE — who’s goal is to turn festivals into platforms for sustainable tourism — Sanitation360, Lapee and Hyrtoaletten teamed up to showcase how urine can be collected, reused, and transformed into sustainable fertiliser as part of a circular nutrient system.
During the event, visitors could explore several innovative toilet solutions:
-Three of our unisex urinals, proud to announce its new name: The Kissoar, were installed and actively used during the festival.
-One additional Kissoar was displayed as a demonstration model.
-Lapee presented their newest model, Lapee Dua — a lighter and easier-to-assemble female urinal designed for public events and festivals.

On Friday, Sanitation360 moderated a panel discussion together with Lapee and Hyrtoaletten about the future of sustainable sanitation at festivals, events, and public spaces. The discussion explored how temporary sanitation systems are often overlooked in sustainability work despite creating significant water use, waste, transport emissions, and nutrient loss.
The panel highlighted the need to rethink festival toilets not only from an environmental perspective, but also from an equality and accessibility perspective. Traditional event sanitation infrastructure often results in long waiting times for women and limited accessibility, while also relying heavily on water-intensive systems and chemical toilets.

Petra Kaukoa from Lapee shared insights into how female urinals can improve access, safety, flow, and user experience at events while significantly reducing queue times and water use. Pia Arvidsson from Hyrtoaletten discussed how event organisers are increasingly looking for more sustainable sanitation solutions and the practical challenges and opportunities involved in implementing circular systems at festivals and public gatherings.
The exhibition became part of a larger inspiring weekend filled with flowers, urban gardening, biodiversity, food growing, sustainability, and climate-smart living. Malmö Garden Show brought together gardeners, researchers, organizations, and visitors from across the region to share ideas and inspiration for greener cities and lifestyles. From balcony gardening and pollinator-friendly meadows to preparedness cultivation and local flowers, the entire event highlighted how sustainability can be both practical and beautiful.

We were also inspired by all the passionate people teaching visitors how to grow their own food, create greener urban spaces, and live more sustainably. A special highlight was seeing the exhibition and stage program hosted by well-known gardening profile John Taylor, alongside many inspiring speakers and organizations throughout the weekend.
A huge thank you to everyone who visited our exhibition, tested our solutions, and joined the conversation about the future of circular sanitation and nutrient recycling.
Special thanks to:
-Christin Persson at Malmö Stad, whose creativity, positivity and hard work made our exhibition area look beautiful and welcoming. She even grew grain from scratch at home, using our urine fertiliser – that’s dedication. TACK Christin!

Christin Persson from Malmö Stad who beautifully curated the exhibition area.
-Petra Kaukoa from Lapee for joining the panel discussion and sharing important perspectives on innovative and inclusive sanitation design.

Nicola from Sanitation360 and Petra from Lapee.
-Pia Arvidsson from Hyrtoaletten for not only participating in the panel, but also spending the entire weekend in the exhibition area engaging visitors in conversations about sanitation equality, sustainable festival infrastructure, and why circular toilet systems matter for the future.

Collaborations like these show that sustainable sanitation can be practical, inclusive, educational — and even inspiring.
We look forward to continuing the conversation and taking “guldvatten” to the next level together. See you next time at Malmöfestivalen 2026, 7-14th of August.
